In 1966, Bottega Veneta was founded by Michele Taddei and Renzo Zengiaro. Started in Vicenza, Italy, the brand’s name translates directly to ‘Italian shop’ in English. Though Bottega Veneta has grown since its early beginnings, with over 250 boutiques located in approximately 40 countries, it remains proud of its ‘Made in Italy’ guarantee. Bottega Veneta is imbued with the craftsmanship of Italian artisans and celebrated for its remarkable leather goods.
Priotizing tradition, Bottega Veneta opened La Scuola dei Maestri Pellettieri in 2006. Here, new hires, interns, and students are trained by teachers and technicians who have grown with the house and are well-versed in its techniques. Most notably, Intrecciato, which is when thin, delicate strips of leather are woven to form a fabric that has become Bottega Veneta’s signature (it takes two craftsmen to create just 1.5 meters!). In joining novice hopefuls with learned professionals, the school aims to preserve the house’s heritage, while also encouraging innovation.
