WHAT'S HOT

Garden Party

Styles

When it comes to styles, you have a lot of options for a garden party! You can go for a dress, skirt or trousers! If you want to wear a dress or skirt, all lengths are good at a garden party. You should opt for light and flowy materials as this will bring a level of sophistication to your look. Satin or silk are two good options as you can choose practically any type of dress or skirt and it’ll instantly look luxurious and extravagant.

If you choose to wear a skirt, you can add practically any type of blouse or top and you’ll be good to go. Try to avoid slogan and statement print to stick to the sophistication of a garden party. If you’re looking for a little something to wear over a dress or a top, a bolero is a great option. They’re back in style because of the Y2K trend and because of their size you can easily carry one in your bag and whip out if it gets cold.

If you don’t want to wear a skirt or dress however, you can easily wear a nice two-piece to a garden party. You can opt for the traditional trouser and blazer combination, but if the weather is nice and you’re in the mood for something different, you can always choose a waistcoat and trousers instead! It has a bit more of a summer feel and there’s a better chance of standing out!

If the event takes place in an actual garden, thin heels will be a bad idea. Wedges are coming back into style, so you’ll easily get away with wearing those even though it’s no longer the noughties. If you don’t like the look of wedges, we suggest either a ballet flat or a chunky heel if you still want to be sophisticated. If you’re feeling adventurous and want something sporty to compliment your otherwise snatched outfit, you can easily pull off a colorful sneaker.

Colors

Colors are a must for a garden party! If someone were to look into the garden, all guests should collectively look like a bouquet of flowers! Pastels are ideal as the light colors will also help you stay cool in the heat, but bright colors are also more than appropriate.

This year, the trending colors presented by WGSN and Coloro are: Digital lavender, Luscious red, Sundial, Tranquil blue and Verdigris. You have your green, blue, red and yellow, so picking an outfit in a trending color won’t be hard!

Accessories

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – scarves are one of the most versatile accessories out there. A scarf can bring a sense of sophistication and effort to any look no matter how you choose to wear it. You can wrap it around your neck, tie it around the handle of your favorite bag or around your ponytail or at the end of your braid. As we mentioned before, the addition of silk or satin is always good and will bring a different sort of dimension to your outfit.

When you say garden party, we think mini bags. Might we even suggest a Fendi Baguette, Le Chiquito from Jacquemus or the Louis Vuitton Pochette Accessories? You don’t really need much to go to a garden party except your wallet, phone and perhaps some lipstick, so you don’t need to bring a large bag!

Hair accessories are some of the most sophisticated accessories out there and will be perfect for a day in the garden. Hair bands and barrettes are both functional and extremely stylish so these could be great additions to an outdoor event.

Necklaces and belts with 3D flowers on them are really kicking off at the moment and have been spotted on, most recently, Harry Styles at the Brit Awards but was always a staple in Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe as well. Because you’re going to a garden party, there’s almost no other accessory more appropriate.

If you’ve decided on a somewhat muted outfit, you can always opt for colorful accessories! There really are no limits when it comes to garden party dressing: As long as you stick to flowy materials and colors you’ll be sure to fit in.
