We’ve gathered some films which – in our opinion – feature some of the best off-duty looks ever to hopefully provide you with some inspiration!
Roman Holiday
Roman Holiday featuring Audrey Hepburn from 1953 is about a princess who goes to Rome and falls in love with an American newsman. Because Audrey Hepburn plays a princess you’re guaranteed great costumes – perhaps this movie is the perfect vacation inspiration for the corporate woman who doesn’t want to venture too far away from her normal wardrobe.
Audrey Hepburn as Princess Ann wears classic and sophisticated looks but especially one pops up when you look up the film – a white short-sleeved shirt tucked into a midi skirt with a large belt and a scarf around her neck. Add a nice bag and you’re ready to go sightseeing!
The Talented Mr. Ripley
Now this is perhaps one of the most stylish films ever created and the outfits are no different. The film is from 1999 and features Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law – three 90s heartthrobs!
When it comes to style, all the looks in the film are all very muted. Colorwise you see a lot of beige, pastels and black which blends perfectly with the Italian surroundings. The men wear suits and ties on some occasions, but mostly you’ll see them in shorts and button ups. Some of the shirts are only one color but some of them have print. All in all, you can describe the male style in this film as all around dapper.
Gwyneth Paltrow plays Marge Sheerwood and she has a very sophisticated look as well. Just like Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday, she’s fond of the midi skirt and short-sleeved shirt combination, but in this film the look is done in a less put together way. Gwyneth ties her shirt in the middle as well as wears it open with a bandeau bikini or bra peeking out.
Her color palette is also very muted, but she wears a lot of pastels and patterns. She’s especially fond of patterned puff-sleeve blouses which add a great touch to any outfit, no matter what you style them with.
One last thing worth pointing out is the scarf on her hair. Gwyneth Paltrow has her hair tied up in many instances in this film and in a great deal of these, she also has a scarf in her hair. This is a great way to add an accessory without having to think about it too much.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
This film is perfect inspiration for any chill off-duty look. The film is from 2005 and therefore serves as the perfect Y2K inspiration. The style in this film has everything from midi skirts and dresses to colorful jeans, wrap-around blouses and cardigans.
The biggest takeaway from this film is not the specific items of clothing but instead the colors. All four girls in this film are not afraid to wear vibrant colors and it often looks like they’ve actually coordinated so no one wears the same color at the same time. Summer is the perfect time to go all out!
Call Me By Your Name
Call Me By Your Name takes place in Northern Italy in the 80s – what more could you honestly want? Because of the time period, you’re guaranteed a plethora of jean jackets, flowy dresses and short shorts, lots of short shorts.
There’s no specific color scheme in this film, you can spot anything from blue jeans and pastels to bright red and green. In general, the fit is oversized and which brings a relaxed feel to any outfit. If you’re looking for inspiration for prints, the most common in this film is without a doubt stripes.
