Valentino is an Italian luxury fashion house founded by Valentino Garavani in 1960 in Rome, but Garavani made his international debut in Florence in 1962. Today the brand creates everything from ready to wear collections, bags of all sorts, shoes and different accessories, like jewelry, eyewear and hats.
Valentino Garavani stayed on as creative director for the brand from 1959 until 2007, where Alessandra Facchinetti took over for a year. She left in 2008 where Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia were appointed co-creative directors. They were both awarded with the CFDA International Award for their work in 2015. Maria Grazia stayed with the brand until 2016. Pierpaolo Piccioli is still creative director today.
Besides creating and designing every possible piece of clothing and accessories, Valentino has also been doing fragrances since 2010.
Valentino reached new heights in popularity in 2010 with their rockstuds which you can still find on shoes and bags as well as hair accessories as they made a comeback on the Spring/Summer 2021 runway.
Valentino have many famous customers – amongst them are Elizabeth Taylor, Jennifer Lopez and Princess Madeleine of Sweden, who have all had bespoke wedding dresses made by Valentino.
The Valentino logo has changed a fair bit over time and especially in the early years. The current Valentino logo was created in 1968 – some say the 80’s – and is a simple serif ‘V’ encircled by an oval that starts and ends from the serifs. You can find the logo on the front of a lot of the bags from Valentino, making them easy to identify.
